Rash of Arkansas Earthquakes Occur Near Tip of Western KYHOPKINS COUNTY, KY—In an Arkansas town around 300 miles from the tip of Western Kentucky, a rash of approximately 50 or more earthquakes have occurred since last Sunday, February 13th, with one measuring in at a whopping 4.1 on the Richter scale. As members of the Arkansas Geological Survey have since stated, the majority of these disturbances are emanating from a city called Guy.
According to a report written by Barry Wright of Greenbrier, AR, this is a somewhat common occurrence for the area.
Geohazard supervisor, Scott Ausbrooks, explains to Wright that, “The last swarm [of earthquakes] lasted for about three years, but the first six months to a year was really intense.” This “swarm” occurred in 1982. Read More
